I'm weird; But washing my hair with baking soda and apple cider vinegar is not weird. Yeah I said it. Apple cider vinegar. That acts as the conditioner. Click here to see easy directions on what to do. I have been doing this for two months now and all signs of what little dandruff I had are completely gone. Plus it is super inexpensive and great for the environment and great for your head and brain? No chemicals seeping into your head is what I call "a good thing."
Experiment with the amounts and length of time you leave the ingredients in your hair, or it can come out too dry (too much time with baking soda in hair) or too smelly (too much time with apple cider vinegar in hair). I have regular length guy hair and I rinse the baking soda out almost immediately and leave the vinegar in for about a minute. Hope you give it a chance.

Baby Powder as a Bug Repellent

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XsB7g6KSht8/SjURhnFnIBI/AAAAAAAABoc/3TmOJ-ZUyxg/s400/liveWasp.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5347199401698205714" />
I am back from my hiatus; And I've learned a few things while gone (from blogging). We live on another island now and it happens to be a state park, which means lots of beautiful nature and wildlife. With this beauty comes spiders, bees, wasps, snakes, deer, raccoons, alligators, etc. I just found a wasps nest at out front door. I looked up "natural wasp repellent" and found this response to my question.

I found that plain baby powder works better than any bug spray and stays around for months or until it rains. Harmless to humans, great deterrent to buggy bugs of all forms. Ants, fleas, termites, all bugs, will not cross over it, if placed on the floor, near door entries, ant holes, fences, walls, invisible to the eye, but no more bugs, spiders, bees, wasps. Put Powder on your kids hair & skin when camping or at the beach and yourself, in the car, everywhere, it really works. So does garlic and onion plants in your yard, keeps all bug life away, even mosquitoes.

When I puffed some of the powder on the nest, they, as expected, flew away. One or two buzzed around for a while and I puffed the nest again. I let it sit for a while then just knocked the nest down and it bounced into the bushes. I then puffed a few borders around the outside of the doors and windows. Hopefully it works. It definitely felt better than spraying Lemon Scented Raid all over the place!

A short film I thought was beautiful

My son from Gunnar Konradsson on Vimeo.

Training for a race

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 343px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XsB7g6KSht8/SWULmL90svI/AAAAAAAAA-k/QyaR3X-GJlQ/s400/Turtle+Crawl+TShirt+08+.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288646088091546354" />
Well, hello to all readers. I have a confession. I am not a vegetarian. Earlier posts would lead you to believe that I may have gone this route, but I never stuck to it. It just wasn't the right time for me. My son was just born, and the extra challenge of changing my diet in such a manner was just that; An extra challenge which I wasn't ready to accept then.
So there it is. I still eat meat, although red meat has been bothering my stomach lately when in burger form. A nice filet mignon is not only very tasty, but hasn't bothered the tummy at all. Only the burgers are doing some damage.
Anyway, enough of that talk. What I really want to talk about is the race I am training for coming up in May. It is the Turtle Crawl Olympic Distance Triathlon on Jekyll Island, Georgia. It has got a fire lit under my butt, so I've started running again. The biking and swimming will start again soon. The excitement of simply knowing I will be signing up for a race is so motivating for myself. If I were to give anyone advice about doing something to make them feel better all around, it would be "sign up for some kind of competitive race". A lot of races you can just walk through; 3 miles or so. And then there are others which are more challenging or course. So wish me luck and I will keep you posted on the progress.

The funny thing about being a new dad

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XsB7g6KSht8/SUfjflCZ7kI/AAAAAAAAA88/OzHUx4qKyPs/s400/DSCN1632.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5280439219772845634" />
Lennon is such a wonderful blessing. His eyes are brown and big. He is easy to make smile. He is so big and healthy. As he just turned ten months, I reflect on the way life has found a different path. His presence forces his mom and I to change, not only some of our daily habits but, our lifestyle. We now need less sleep than we thought, to get smoothly through the day. The most nauseating smells are not so bad anymore. I also think it's been about a year since we've been to a club or bar, which was an event that we tried to do a couple times a month before.
A new challenge we've met is "group parenting". Thankfully, we both parent a bit differently. Dawn is more protective of "her baby", where I tend to let him fall on his face. Though both methods are equally important for healthy growth, they do tend to clash once in a while. But we work it out pretty quickly without disturbing the little guy. We also are starting to be more like the other parent which is nice to see.

Anyway, life is new and lovely and we wouldn't have it any other way. One article struck me as particularly important as it describes the benefits of organic foods. It is a very succinct and convincing article based on anti-cancer foods which agrees with all of my previous research. The vegetarian lifestyle has long intrigued me for its health and environmental benefits, yet pulling it off personally was always only a one or two day event. So here goes. It's day one. This morning I had coffee, eggs and toast. For lunch its was two PB&J's with a few Doritos. Yes! I'm doing it! you can use from time to time to help you make decisions, and to provide fresh new perspectives on challenges you may be facing. It is a technique that is also especially effective when you’re feeling stuck. It also feels incredibly cool to sit with these people while they give you advise. It cleverly states "The ideological supermarket--like any supermarket--is fit only for looting. It is of more practical use to us to move along the shelves, rip open the packets, take out what looks authentic and useful, and dump the rest." In other words, recreate yourself, your actions and your beliefs as you discover and hold onto only the things which are full of truth and bring you the greatest peace. Don't find one thing you like contained inside of an entire philosophy, only to accept the rest of the philosophy without question.

That is deep but is right up my alley. Enjoy.

You Decide.

Raise Enlightened Children

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_XsB7g6KSht8/SEgvHnJpTyI/AAAAAAAAAOE/gWym9zqGhcY/s320/Father%26Son.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5208464776869007138" />
I stumbled upon this blog today. Our son is almost 4 months now and this article spoke to me deeply. Here is an excerpt.

The image in the child, of a son, comes as a response to the image of the father projecting on him. In other words, when you play dad, instead of just being a Witnessing Consciousness, he then is forced to play and build the son image. These images then grow in influence over the relationship and instead of the relationship being established in openness, love and moment to moment awareness, it becomes an interaction between the two images. The more the images are in play, the less connected one is to one’s Natural Self and the less communion and love there is.

All Answers Green

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_XsB7g6KSht8/SEb_tTACi3I/AAAAAAAAAN8/iZDltJRjFXA/s320/metaefficient_banner_green.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5208131172760193906" />
The blog, MetaEfficient.com, has had my attention for the last year now and has not let me down a bit. When I tell people of this hobby, I often get the question "So how do you do that, anyway?" My answer: you can meditate anywhere, anytime. On a train. Driving your car. Walking. Sitting (any position). Meditation is the simple act of "paying close attention to this moment". A common morning practice for me is to get up, go to the kitchen, start the coffee, set micro-wave timer to 10 or 15 minutes. Sit cross legged on a firm pillow with blanket under my ankles, and be silent. Simple; Although the discipline of the act brings gifts of mental clarity. Other details that can be added later are: keeping shoulders wide, not closing eyes all the way, softening valley between nose and lips, letting outer corner of eyes be wide, breathe through nose, etc. The main purpose though is to clear all mental chatter by allowing thoughts to pass like a floating cloud. Let everything be as it is, without controlling the moment. Be the watcher of your mind and body.
Once your mind has settled you can add mantras into the practice. I find these to be great starters but you should choose those which are true to you now. Also feel free to make up your own, as great mantras will come to you within the meditations themselves.

Why use Natural Remedies?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_XsB7g6KSht8/SEQTuTfT1TI/AAAAAAAAANM/svcDRpYZG5Q/s320/herbal-medicine.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5207308755373643058" />
Ever seen a dog lick grass when it has an upset stomach? Super smooth and protects the skin with its incredible organic moisturizing elements. My wife bought this for me for Christmas of '07. You only have to use a little bit each time you shave. Five months later the tube is still over half full and I shave an average of four to five time per week. So I'll only need one in my stocking each Christmas in order to cover me for the entire year, cutting down on trash, cost, and consumption. Also, the number of cosmetic companies who still do animal testing is atrocious. This company does not.

Lennon at two and a half months.

Lennon George - My son born on Valentine's Day morning has turned out to be truly a love child.
